- Use an emery board rather than a metal file: the metal can damage your nails
- File using single strokes in one direction rather than a back-and-forth motion which can break your nails
- Before filing your nails, soak hands in warm water for 15 minutes to make your nails less brittle.
Then apply moisturiser
- Avoid using nail varnish just after a bath or shower because the water softens your nails and makes them porous.
Instead, wait a few hours for them to harden again.
